Estate planning typically involves the input of several professionals, including a financial advisor, attorney, and accountant. A financial advisor can help you identify your financial goals and devise a plan to meet them, while an attorney can help you navigate the legal complexities of estate planning and draft legal documents such as wills and trusts. An accountant can assist with tax planning, which can help minimize the tax implications of transferring assets. Additionally, an insurance agent or financial advisor might be involved in estate planning to help with life insurance, long-term care and other insurance related products which can be used as part of an estate plan.

It is important to remember that you should use the correct professional to handle the correct task.  Simply put, insurance agents sell insurance while accountants advise regarding taxes.  Neither of these professionals can draft a will or trust.  Engage the professional that can help with the task you are trying to accomplish.  If you start with an attorney you can always seek a referral to one of the other professionals that you might need.
